April 09: Plastic Flue

The impact of Part L1 of the building regulations has been felt throughout the industry since its introduction in 2006. We are all aware that the use of high efficiency condensing boilers fired by gas or oil can result in substantially lower emission rates making it easier for dwellings to comply with the emission targets of Part L and the Code for Sustainable Homes.

This is all very well for individual dwellings but what about the cost and safety implications of providing condensing boilers and the fuel supply to multi apartment buildings? It has become necessary to run centralised boiler systems, eliminating the expense of individual boilers and the safety concerns of individual gas or oil supply.

With the increased use of condensing boilers there are implications for the flue system. Stainless Steel systems are not ideally suited to the acidic condition of the products of combustion and may have a reduced life as a result. They can also be difficult to install with higher associated costs.

Due to the lower flue gas temperatures, our versatile push-fit, lightweight, polypropylene gas flue systems for any configuration of boilers, such as Cascade and CLV installations, are the perfect solution to the problem and have been sold and installed across Europe for many years with exceptionally positive results.

April 09: Sponsored Walk

Specflue has entered a team (the Specflue Crew trading as David’s Trousers) in this year’s Trailwalker UK event. The challenge is to walk 100km in less than 30 hours across the South Downs. All monies raised are split equally by Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

The team itself is comprised of the following fine folk: Representing the warehouse, David Chambers couldn’t resist the opportunity to take his Trousers out for an airing. He says: “When I heard about this challenge, I immediately wanted to take part. I thoroughly enjoy outdoor activities, so it seemed right to combine my leisure interests whilst raising money for a good cause.”

Sales are represented by both Nick Bainbridge and Heather Claye. For Heather, “it was the idea that this is an once-in-a-lifetime challenge, and sometimes you just have to get out there and take the opportunity.” As for Nick, “I’m game for anything!”, as all that needs to be said.
