Aug 2009: Race Night

We are holding a Race night @ Stoke by Nayland golf club on 25th September. The idea being to raise as much as possible for our charity. How can you help, whilst many of you have already sponsored the team, and that’s greatly appreciated, we would now like to sell off sponsorship of each horse for the night. There are 6 races throughout the night, 8 horses per race. With the horses in the last race being auctioned on the night. For the last race there will be three prizes donated by Specflue and the Golf Club, actual prizes to be confirmed but will be for first, second and third place. To sponsor and name a horse is £25 (nothing contentious or rude allowed). The sponsors will be issued on a first come first served basis so don’t delay. Please contact myself if you wish to purchase a horse. We will be inviting along customers and suppliers, tickets will be £15 per head, to cover the cost of the a buffet on the night and the event organiser. Any surplus will obviously go into the charity funds, any shortfall will be picked up by Specflue. Please get involved and make a great evening happen, have a great time and raise lots of money for a very worthwhile cause.

July 2009: Oxfam Trailwalkers

It all began back in March, earlier this year. The Specflue Crew team leader, Graham, started to look for volunteers to participate in this year’s Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge – to walk 100km (or 64 miles) across the South Downs in less than 30 hours, and raise over £2200 for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

David injured his knee at the beginning of checkpoint 3. Bravely soldiering on, he continued until the end of checkpoint 5. Says David: “I thought the whole weekend went very well, although stage 5 onwards was very disappointing personally. The organisation on the day was excellent and I think the Ghurkas did an excellent job. Our team spirit was superb; all the help and support from Specflue helped to make our weekend a very emotional and memorable weekend”.

Undeterred, the three remaining crew members pressed on overnight, only for Nick to also succumb to a painful knee injury at the end of checkpoint 8. However, our Nick will “be doing it again next year and, fingers crossed, will not suffer any injury – it was an experience!”

Despite being in considerable pain and getting absolutely soaked, Heather and Graham finally crossed the finish line in just under 29 hours. “To say we were relieved is an understatement.” Graham continues: “We are very grateful to everyone involved, including the best support crew ever – an unforgettable weekend and all for a great cause. After all our efforts, we now hope to beat our collection target as well.”

A very big thank you goes to all of our customers and suppliers who have kindly sponsored us already. All monies raised are donated equally between Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

It would be really appreciated if you can help us collect more than £2200 by contacting us on 0800 9 http://www.justgiving.com/specflue
